About the Contributor: Leonila Vega

Leonila VegaLeonila Vega, Esq. is an advocate for older adults, people with disabilities, and direct care workers. As DCA’s Executive Director, she has created a network of direct-care worker associations, starting with a national convention of direct care worker as¬sociations; launched the Voices Institute; and brought together over a dozen state associations and coalitions to coalesce activities and develop best practices. She is also a founding member of the Eldercare Workforce Alliance, the group formed in response to the Institute of Medicine’s Re-tooling for an Aging America: Building the Health Care Workforce report, and a co-chair of the CareWork Network, an international group of experts in direct care. As an elder and disability rights lawyer, she has addressed workforce improvement and worker empowerment through her policy work and as an elder rights lawyer working with labor, elder and disability groups. She was raised in rural Mexico and put herself through college and law school, graduating from the University of Wisconsin—Madison Law School.
