The Direct Care Alliance will welcome another new staff member and boost our presence in the nation’s capitol when Aaron P. Pickering joins us as our full-time director of communications next week.
Aaron comes to us from Equal Justice Works, where he helped promote the work of law students and attorneys providing pro bono representation to low-income and vulnerable individuals and families. As their senior communications specialist, he was part of the team that developed their communications and marketing strategy. Aaron brings the right combination of skills and passion for social justice that will benefit the DCA as we fight for improving the direct care profession.
“The Direct Care Alliance shares my commitment to public service and social justice, and I’m thrilled to be joining this innovative and talented group,” he says. “I look forward to expanding DCA’s presence in Washington, DC, and advocating on behalf of direct care workers across the country.”
Aaron often speaks about social media strategy and integrated marketing. He also co-teaches graduate-level courses on new media, media relations and public affairs for associations and nonprofits at the George Washington University, where he earned his master’s degree in Political Management – Strategic Public Relations & Public Affairs. He got his BA in English with a minor in Political Science at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.
He will build on the communications plan developed for the DCA by communications consultant Elise Nakhnikian. Elise created our first comprehensive communications plan and revamped and revitalized our website, blog, and e-newsletter, The Direct Care News. She will continue to provide communications assistance to the DCA as our communications advisor.
