Worker Associations Plan Fall Conferences

NM conference cover artThe Iowa CareGivers Association (ICA), the Florida Professional Association of Care Givers (FPACG), and the New Mexico Direct Caregivers Coalition are all hosting their annual conferences this fall.

Iowa CareGivers Association

The ICA’s event, Cracking the Caregiver Code, will be held on October 9 in Des Moines. It will feature educational sessions on caregiving topics, like “The Top 10 Things to Know About Autism” and “A Crash Course in Preventing and Managing Conflict,” as well as sessions aimed at honing attendees’ self-care and leadership skills. Attendees can get free bone density, blood pressure, and body mass index screenings, and blood lipids and glucose screenings will be offered for a minimal fee.

A limited number of scholarships for direct care workers will be awarded based on merit as well as financial need.

Florida Professional Association of Care Givers

Care Givers Soaring High is the theme of Florida’s conference this year.

Formerly known as the Florida Association of Nurse Assistants, FPACG is holding its statewide conference on October 6 at the Winter Haven Ramada Inn. Attendees choose two afternoon workshops to attend in addition to a motivational keynote speech. FPACG will also honor its Care Giver of the Year and Career Care Giver of the Year at the conference.

Scholarships are available to cover the cost of registration.

New Mexico Direct Caregivers Coalition

The first statewide summit for this new organization will be held in Albuquerque on November 6. Travel scholarships are available.

Topics will include: 

  •   Affordable health insurance
  •   Demographics and the growing elderly population
  •   Occupational safety and the workplace
  •   High demand occupations in direct care
  •   Education and credentialing
  •   Career pathways
  •   State initiatives and good jobs for direct caregivers
  •   Federal apprenticeships and direct care
  •   Family caregivers as advocates
  •   Technology issues caregivers will face
