I am also one of the fortunate Direct Care Professionals that was chosen to attend the Voices Institute. I cannot tell you all the wonderful things I learned during that week. I found my voice and am now using it. I have spoke with some of my elected officials in Wisconsin, and the interesting thing is they really want to hear from the workers themselves. Who knows our story better than us?

It was amazing to see every direct care worker who attended this week long retreat grow as a person and leader. I came to realize that week that I was a leader and if I wanted things to change that I needed to speak up and be heard.

I whole heartedly agree with my fellow alumni from VI that if we can do it so can you!!! Remember that you can only grow as a person if you step out of your comfort zone and get involved. Because the more we speak up as a group the louder our voices are, and I think I've heard it said that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. SO LET'S START SQUEAKING!!!!!
